ABOUT

This 3-week summer internship gives students the opportunity to participate in paid, active research at the ARC Centre of Excellence for Gravitational Wave Discovery (OzGrav), focusing on accomplishing a focused project in astrophysics research, immersive design, or science communication.

The name MilliPheDe is a play on "Milli-PhD". Through this program, students gain the opportunity to experience real research for the first time across the 3 weeks, just like a PhD student, with access to world-class facilities and mentorship from award-winning researchers, professionals, and youth leaders.

Every student will walk away having created something they can be proud of, all while building scientific and technical skills across research, data analytics, creative design, and educational outreach. By sharing a passion for STEM with the broader Swinburne and astrophysics community, each and every student-led project is designed to create a significant contribution to the field, whether through research, design, or education.

ASTRAL STREAMS

While all MilliPheDe Students take part in learning the diverse range of skills offered in the Program, each student will specialise into one of three project streams:

The RDA Stream will develop students’ research capabilities in the digital and astrophysics space. Through Swinburne’s supercomputer system and expansive research network, students will complete their own research project through the MilliPheDe Program under the guidance of expert researchers, gaining more specialised skills in scientific writing, programming, data analysis, and supercomputing.
