ABOUT

This 3-week summer internship allows students the paid opportunity to participate in active research in the ARC Centre of Excellence for Gravitational Wave Discovery (OzGrav), focusing on accomplishing a focused astrophysics project.

The name is derived from “milli-PhD”, meaning that through this program, we aim to give students the opportunity to experience real research, just like a PhD student for the duration of the 3 weeks.

We want students to walk away with each of the learning outcomes outlined above, with specific technical skills in scientific research, data science, programming and outreach.

We hope that through this program, students can share their passion with the broader Swinburne and OzGrav community to significantly contribute to research and outreach, whether it be astrophysics research or outreach content using Swinburne's Virtual Universe.

ASTRAL STREAMS

Our ASTRAL MilliPheDe Program consists of three streams:

The RDA Stream will develop students’ research capabilities in the digital and astrophysics space. Through Swinburne’s supercomputer system and expansive research network, students will complete their own research project through the MilliPheDe Program and learn essential skills in scientific writing, programming, data analysis, and supercomputing!

ASTRAL is out of this world (literally)! The ASTRAL program allowed myself to learn what it really feels like to do research, especially in an amazing team environment. It was fun, engaging, and through this program, I was able to fully realise why I love astronomy. It's fun, challenging and very rewarding!
